38th Information Day at SL innovativ GmbH

back

38th SL innovativ GmbH Information Day on 15 October 2019 in Dinkelsbühl – Once again, we welcomed many guests to our offices with beautiful autumn weather.

SL innovativ GmbH’s 38th Information Day was a great success again. At our offices, we welcomed roughly 100 guests interested in learning about the latest topics and forward-looking technologies in the technical documentation sector.

After the two Directors of SL innovativ GmbH, Mr Gerhard Lierheimer and Mr Andreas Schott, welcomed the guests and presented SL innovativ GmbH’s range of services, the informative and interesting keynotes started.

The Director of SL innovativ GmbH, Mr Gerhard Lierheimer kicked off this part of the event, taking us on a journey through the jungle of directives between the Industrial Safety Regulation and Machinery Directive, or risk assessment and hazard evaluation in his presentation ‘The New Industrial Safety Regulation – Combining Information and Use’. His clear and informative presentation detailed the steps operators have to take to ensure that the equipment they provide to their employees is safe. The double role of instruction manuals – first for the manufacturer and then for the operator – was the uniting theme throughout the presentation.

After a deserved and lengthy break for communication, the next speaker took the stage.

Mr Peter Oehmig, an experienced technical writer at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and an active speaker on technical documentation, immersed himself and his listeners in a highly topical and very interesting subject in his presentation ‘Easy Language, Simple Language, Controlled Language or What? – It’s Easy to Write Complicated Texts’. In a period of decreasing language skills, and the resulting reduction in comprehension, especially for people for whom German is their second language, it is more important than ever to write simply. With vivid examples, Mr Oehmig showed that writing simply is not really simple – but looks easy.

That wealth of information was followed by another welcome communication break in the morning.

Mr Dietrich Juhl closed the series of presentations with his keynote ‘Visualising technology – Targeted use of images in instructions’. With his experience of training technical writers for many years and as a well-known author of reference books, Mr Juhl vividly presented how images are used in instructions – at times without recognising them as such, and how graphics can be used specifically to present information simply, clearly and concisely. Pictures don’t always say more than 1000 words – but the power of images used intelligently was very clear to see.

In the breaks, our guests talked shop with the speakers and amongst themselves, and discussed the topics in depth.

The excellent catering and the relaxed and personal atmosphere made this 38th Information Day another highly successful event.

After the event, some of our guests visited the 3D museum in Dinkelsbühl. There, our guests experienced how images can mislead us, how our eyes deceive us and how nothing is as it seems – a perfect end to the presentation on visualising technology.

We would like to thank our speakers Mr Peter Oehmig and Mr Dietrich Juhl for their hard work and the fascinating presentations, and all of our customers, potential customers and guests for attending. We wish you lots of fun revising the topics and look forward to our next meeting.

The presentations are available for download on our homepage under SERVICE>DOWNLOADS.

The event series will continue and we are already planning the 39th SL innovativ GmbH Information Day in spring 2020. We will be sure surprise you again with interesting topics and inform you about it in good time.

We already wish you a wonderful autumn and winter and continued success in all of your plans and projects. We are happy to support you on your way to innovative technical documentation.
